Disneyland Vacation: Day 3

It's hard to believe we're almost halfway through our trip already! Time has really gone by quickly, which is always an indication that you're having a good time. And we definitely are. This morning I let Kaylie pick which of her two princess dresses she wanted to wear to the park. She chose to be Alice (which I guess isn't really a princess) and she remained Alice almost all the way up to nap time. She looked so cute in her pretty little dress. We tried to get over to the park a little bit earlier, but we had a bit of a hold up. Yesterday, the whole park's system was down. ("The system is down. The system is down." Okay, I'm done.) Which meant that we didn't get our actual tickets from will call when we got there. The result was that today I had to stand in line for 45 minutes when we got there to pick up our real tickets. *scowl* Needless to say, we got right down to fun-having business when we finally got in.

Waiting to get ready. (Note the full trash can and pile of towels behind them. We didn't get maid service until this afternoon.)

Once again we tried to go to Peter Pan first, but this time the ride wasn't working so we decided not to risk getting stuck in line in case it took awhile to fix it. So we moved on to the carousel again. Both kids just love the carousel! I literally had to pry Kaylie off of her horse when it was over, and Drew was so relaxed he probably would have fallen asleep had we left him on there. We went from there to the Storybook Canal, something we knew that Kaylie would get a kick out of since she's such a big fan of most of the stories included in the ride. She really did enjoy it! It was so exciting to get to see the three little pigs' houses and Cinderella's castle. She kept calling Monstro the whale a shark and commenting that he had sharp teeth. Haha.

Riding on the carousel again!

Kaylie was very nervous about going into the mouth of Monstro, but once we were through she said, "Dat's not too bad!"

She had to check again to see if the White Rabbit was home.

After the Storybook Canal we decided to try Pirates of the Caribbean. I'll admit, I was concerned about it being too scary for Kaylie, but Phil insisted that we try it anyway and I'm glad we did. It was nice to go on something that wasn't just for kids, and really Kaylie did fine. She had a grip on my neck the whole time, and a couple of times she closed her eyes, but she couldn't seem to keep herself from looking at everything, even when it was obvious she didn't want to. The absolute best part of that ride, though, was at the end when we realized that Drew had fallen sound asleep on Phil's lap. Hey, can you blame him? Dark, cool, fairly quiet ride, with the rocking of the boat. He was so out that even when we left the ride and moved on to our next destination he didn't wake up. I guess he needed a little cat nap.

After Pirates was over.

Sound asleep after Pirates.

From there we went to Tom Sawyer's Island. I've never been all that excited about it. In fact, I can't even remember the last time I went there when I was at Disneyland. But Phil knew that the kids would like the tunnels and the dirt and the climbing, and he was right. They ran all over that place, going in and out of caves, banging on rocks, and climbing up on top of treasure chests. It's still not really my favorite place because it's a little boring, but the kids had a blast so that made it more fun.

He is just so cute!

Doing some exploring with Daddy.

We were just about ready to head back to the hotel and gave the kids their lunches in the stroller while we walked, but we decided to try one more time at the Peter Pan ride. Sure enough it was working and the wait wasn't too long. (The park has been busy while we're here, but I don't think we've waited anymore than 20 minutes for any ride, and usually much less than that. It really hasn't been bad.) We knew it was going to be a little bit of a wait, so Phil decided to keep Kaylie occupied but pointing out the evil queen from Snow White who would open the curtains in the upper window of the Snow White ride and look out. Kaylie was completely taken by it (brilliant move, Daddy!) and spent most of the wait watching for the queen to appear. Every once in awhile she would yell, "Go away, queen!" Peter Pan was a hit, so we'll definitely be going on that again. It's one of my favorite kid rides at Disneyland, and I don't think I'm the only one who feels that way because there's always quite a bit of a line.

Of course she had to try again to pull the sword from the stone.

Watching for the evil queen!

The kids took pretty good naps again today and while they slept I ventured over to the Anaheim Walmart. They have both been particularly hungry this week and, even though I thought I had enough snacks for them, I was obviously wrong because we're already running out. I figured it was much cheaper to drive ten minutes to a Walmart than to buy everything at the quickie mart a block away. I was very right. So now we're all stocked back up on snacks. I also got a big jug of fruit punch. Neither of the kids have had nearly enough water to drink, in spite of our offering it to them over and over again, and we were getting concerned about them getting dehydrated. So I figured I'd add just a bit of fruit punch to their water to make it more appealing and hopefully they'll drink more. It's worked so far!

After naptime Kaylie insisted that we go on the carousel again. She loves that thing. I think we've ridden that at least four times and I have a feeling we'll be doing it many more this week. A favorite ride of Phil and I is Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters (or Bud Lightyear, as I called it on accident last week), so we definitely had to show the kids that one. Kaylie *loved* it! Since there was practically no line we rode it three times in a row. Drew was fairly unimpressed, but that's pretty standard. Haha. Of course after the third time we rode on it and were just about to get off is when he decided he wanted to hold the ray gun. Since Kaylie loved it so much I went over to the gift shop while she and Phil rode the rockets (which is basically like Dumbo but on spaceships) and got her an astro blaster ray gun. She was so excited and "shot" everything in sight, although I think most of her enjoyment of it came after dark when she could see it light up.

Drew and I shooting aliens.

Kaylie took her job defending the galaxy very seriously.

Phil decided he wanted to got to Tarzan's Tree House, which is something I was even less excited about than Tom Sawyer's Island. It's also frighteningly high up, so I got almost to the top and started feeling really anxious and decided to take Drew and go back down. Phil said that Kaylie liked the tree house. Drew spent his time on firm ground wandering around and touching all the doors on the restaurants. He was also very mad at me that I wouldn't let him climb up in a chair at a restaurant table that a family was sitting at and had to be redirected from that.

The rest of the evening was spent doing rides we'd done before. We saw that the Jungle Cruise had no wait, so we jumped on that and rode it again. Kaylie laughed at one of the tour guide's jokes, which made Phil and I chuckle. Who knows if she really got the joke. We wanted to go to the petting zoo after that, but decide to stop at Pirates again on our way. Even though Kaylie was talking big about how brave she was and how she wasn't going to be afraid because it was all pretend, I was a little worried she'd be scared still. Especially when we were entering the first cave and she said, "This isn't a very good idea!" But, surprise, surprise, she had a blast. She talked and pointed and sang along the whole time. She stayed snuggled up next to me a lot, but she really enjoyed herself. I think she may actually want to go on there again. Even Drew stayed awake this time. When we left Pirates we discovered that the petting zoo was closed, so we looked at the horse and donkeys and then went out on a search for dinner.

"Arrrrgggghhh!"

Walking with Daddy.

Funny little guy.

We had quite a time finding somewhere to eat tonight. There were several places that were closed (at 6pm???) and one place that wanted to charge $25 per adult and $10 per kid! No thank you! Finally we landed on a Mexican restaurant. It was only okay, but we enjoyed sitting down and relaxing a little bit. After eating some dinner Drew really perked up and was quite the little goofball for the rest of the evening. He had us laughing a lot.

Being silly at dinner.

Before heading out for the night we got in a ride on Mr. Toad's Wild ride, (Phil told Kaylie that if she got scared she could plug her ears and she did really well, but when the train was coming she immediately stuck her fingers in her ears. Because that would stop an oncoming train. Haha.) Alice In Wonderland, the teacups, and another ride on the Astro Blasters! The lines have been so fast this week, so we feel like we've gotten to do a lot.

Riding on the carousel again.

Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.

Sweetness.

Drew didn't make it back to the hotel. He was sound asleep by the time we were out of the park. Kaylie was wearing down, too, but didn't seem thrilled about admitting it. She said, "I'm tired. Mommy, are you tired, too?" Couldn't be the only one sleepy, I guess. We've got them down to sleep now (they've been crashing really fast every night) and are enjoying some down time to rest.

Sleeping soundly on the way home.

Today was even more fun than yesterday! It's hard to imagine us having anymore fun than we did today, actually. Both kids enjoyed themselves more, Kaylie was able to relax and have fun on all the rides, and Phil and I have been having a wonderful time playing with them. One of my favorite moments today was on the way to the teacups this evening when Kaylie was skipping and dancing along and she said, "I wove Dizzywand!" Success! :) Tomorrow we do California Adventure! Until then!
