Disneyland Vacation: Day 1

Yes, yes. I realize that these next few blog posts will have nothing at all to do with crafting. I also realize that it's been an unacceptably long time since I've done anything craft-related on here. However, it has been requested by my lovely mother-in-law that I blog about our trip this week. So here you are!

Today's post won't be very long at all since it was just a travel day. But you know me. I'm a talker, so it may be longer than it needs to be. :) I have to say, everything went significantly more smoothly than I expected, considering this is the longest either of our kids has been in the car. This morning we went to church as usual and then afterwards grabbed a quick lunch and hit the road. (Dad, you should know that Kaylie will always and forever associate Wendy's with getting to see you. When we got there she asked several times if you were going to be there.) :)

Seriously so happy to be facing forward.                   All comfy and watching her movies.

For Christmas, Bob and Norma got us a dual DVD player for the car and, let me just say: Best. Gift. Ever. Kaylie is her mother's daughter and could watch movies all day long if we let her, so she was content for 95% of the ride to watch movie after movie. She got through "Peter Pan", "Emperor's New Groove", and "Sword In the Stone." Drew, however, I was a little more concerned about. He's not so much into movies yet and he's still not quite old enough to appreciate things like reading books or coloring. So you can imagine how surprised I was when he just grinned and squealed and happily goofed off almost the entire ride. Phil flipped his carseat facing forward this weekend and he *loves* it! That in and of itself was entertainment enough for him. I think altogether we only had twenty minutes of crying from both kids combined for the entire seven hours we were traveling. Amazing. Really the only time I got genuinely mad was when Kaylie dumped 2/3 of her chocolate milk on my foot at the Subway during dinner and the stupid people have all the napkins behind the counter, so I had to wait with a sticky foot to get some, and then they still didn't give me enough. Haha.

Sound asleep for their naps.                               I'm always the one taking the pictures so I'm
never in them. Now there's proof I was there! :)

So we got on the freeway this afternoon at around 2:30pm and arrived safely at our hotel at about 9:30pm. We only made 2.5 stops. (Rest stop to stretch our legs halfway through, gas station immediately following that--that's the half stop--and then dinner.) The hotel we're staying in is really nice. Our room is a suite and it's basically like a mini apartment. It has a bedroom, a living room, a full kitchen (with a stove and everything!), well and obviously a bathroom. Haha. So I've now got everyone's clothes unpacked into the dresser, the diaper bag packed and in the stroller for tomorrow, and all our outfits laid out. Tomorrow morning should (fingers crossed) be really relaxing and easy. We are so excited to see the kids' faces as they experience everything at Disneyland for the first time! Until tomorrow!
